Investing in your grain business

Our operations are designed to move yours forward

Southeast Farmers Cooperative grain locations are positioned to access local and global corn and soybean markets, providing our members with competitive bids and modern facilities.

Our shuttle loader on the Burlington Northern/Santa Fe Railroad in Elk Point gives us access to export markets that would otherwise be unavailable. And our South Dakota locations near soybean crushing plants and corn processors allows us to take advantage of local markets when prices are right.

We communicate regularly with our grain customers to make sure we understand their objectives and meet their needs. Whether you need grain contracts, on-farm grain pick up or just another opinion, we’re here for you.

Continually Improving Our Facilities

As a farmer-owned cooperative, we look to make investments that contribute to the success of your farming business. Time is money when you’re moving grain, and it’s important to get in, get out and get back to work.

We’ve made numerous investments in recent years to improve speed and storage at our elevators. This allows us to handle tens of thousands of bushels per hour and store millions of bushels.

  • We recently upgraded our speed at our terminal in Elk Point to 35,000 bushels/hour. During harvest we also pile grain with two, 25,000 bushel-per-hour conveyors. This brings our dump capacity to 85,000 bushels/hour during harvest.
  • We updated our facility in Beresford, increasing dump speed to 27,000 bushels of soybeans per hour. Corn has increased to 28k/hour.
  • We have added 1.2 million bushels of bunker storage in Centerville, and the conveyor that feeds it operates at 15,000 bushels/hour.

Grain Contracts

When it comes to grain marketing, it’s best to sell when you want to, not when you need to. But that takes planning and an understanding of your breakeven and potential profit margins.

We can help with grain contracts that allow you to price bushels ahead to capitalize on opportunities. For example, consider pricing grain at the same time you prepay fertilizer contracts to lock in some margin.

Southeast Farmers offers you many avenues to price bushels, including cash contracts, basis, basis premium, price builder bonus, min/max and min/max/average.

With these contracts, you can establish a minimum price, while leaving potential for upside participation should the market move higher after you price some bushels.

We recommend you be proactive with your grain marketing rather than just taking what you can get. For information on these contracts and others, or any other questions, please reach out to our grain team.
